Our homebuilding experience with Brad Thomas Construction can be summarized into two statements: attention to detail and open communication. As this was our first experience building a home, we were, understandably, apprehensive about the whole process. Brad initially set himself apart from other contractors by taking the time to learn about our tastes, expectations, and budget. Instead of providing us with a rough estimate on building costs based on the “average” build, he took the time to meet with us at the lighting store, show us plumbing and fixture options, determine what kind of cabinets would meet our needs, and brought the excavator to view our property. All of this was done prior to providing us with an estimate; therefore, when Brad met with us to discuss the cost of our new home, we were confident that we would be getting the home we dreamed of at the budget we needed. Furthermore, Brad’s cost-plus method of building allowed us to see where every dollar was spent on our home; all invoices were shared and discussed with us throughout the building process. Open communication was one of the things we were most grateful for during our home building journey. In the seven months that it took to complete our home, there was never a time that we were not able to get in touch with Brad or that he did not quickly respond to a phone call, email, or text. In addition, he always provided us with an agenda of what work was scheduled to take place during the current week and weeks to follow. There was never a time that we weren’t fully aware of what was taking place at our home. Although communication was an invaluable part of building our home, what made our experience even more rewarding was Brad’s attention to detail. He always took the time to explain options regarding trim, flooring, stain, etc. For example, when we were trying to select trim for our home, Brad met us at the wood shop to show us multiple options to consider. As a result of Brad’s emphasis on detail, we ended up with a custom home in which every decision was made after careful consideration. Our fireplace mantel is just one example of Brad’s eye for detail and woodworking ability. He created and designed a stunning fireplace mantel that incorporates the curves and detail of our crown molding that could only be achieved through customization. We purchased a true fixer-upper and were lucky enough to meet Brad at the beginning of our remodel. We were able to live comfortably in our home during the process, which went smoothly and as quickly as possibly since Brad had everything in place before starting each project.
